CG Studio Map – Another Job-Hunting Tool

Sunday, October 24th, 2010

Found this site a few weeks back, and I though I should share it. Just like the two game studio and animation maps I posted earlier, this map has a list of a bunch of CG studios. So this map should be really useful if you’re looking for a job in the CG industry, whether its in animation, 3D modeling or anything else. As I’m writing this there are 700 studios listed on the site, I’m not sure if all the information is up to date, but you should still have more then enough to choose from if you’re looking for a job.

New MacBook Pro

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Been saving up money to buy myself a new Mac recently, mostly because I really needed a laptop, and also because I missed having a MacBook. The battery of my old MacBook died a few months back, and I never bothered with replacing it because the MB was, well, old. So yesterday I finally headed in to Eplehuset in Oslo and bought myself a brand new MacBook Pro 15″, with the i7 processor.

So far I am extremely happy with the purchase. It looks fantastic, and runs very smooth. Still working on installing all the apps that I need etc, but most of the really important stuff is taken care of (Maya 2011, PhotoShop and all that). The one thing I have enjoyed the most so far is being able to run Maya 2011 64 bit verison. It’s damn fast! All in all it’s definitely worth the money.

Update On What The Hell Is Going On

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

So it has been a few weeks since I graduated from Animation Mentor now, and in those few weeks I have, in fact, been doing absolutely nothing. Well, that’s not competely true, as I have been to work a few times because I really need the money, seeing as I’m saving up to buy a new MacBook Pro, and those things don’t come cheap.

But what I have had is a short vacation from everything animation related, and it has been great. Generally I’ve just been laying around in the sun, gaming, and watching TV. After 18 months at AM I really needed some time off. But you can’t just lay around doing nothing forever (if you could, nothing would ever get done, you see). So now I’m working on getting back on the metaphorical animation horse, as it were.

I’ve been spending a few days now working on some ideas for some ideas for new shots to animate, and I’m currently playing around with a body mechanics-type shot that I think would be fun to try out.

My plan so far is to start sending out my first demo reel by the end of August, depending on the quality of the work of course, but I think it’s a reasonable time to get a few good shots done. Hopefully I’ll get some response, but in the very likely event that I don’t, I will of course continue working until I have a reel that is more than good enough to get me a job.

But now I need to get back to a few hours of procrastination, before I consider doing something constructive.

Animation Mentor, Completed

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

I honestly didn’t really know what exactly to write about in this post, so I just made it short and sweet. Just figured I needed to update the blog with something.

And so my time as a student at Animation Mentor is finally over. The last assignment has been delivered, the last eCritique has been watched etc. etc. It’s been a long journey, and it’s a little sad that it has come to an end, yet it’s been really great to take a little time off and just relax

So what am I going to do now that AM is over? Well, I still don’t have a finished demo reel. I’m not really happy with the one I delivered as my final assignment at AM, and it certainly won’t get me a job. So the plan righ now is to spend a few months working on some new shots. Probably joing a few 11 Second Club contests, and eventually go over a few of my AM assignments that still have potential.

Once I’m done with that, depending on what I end up with, I’ll probably start sending out my demo reel to companies, to see what kind of reaction I get. If nothing comes out of that I’ll keep working until something happens.

I’m also in the process of wrting about Animation Mentor as a school, and my experience of it. Good and bad. Figured it might be an interesting read for anyone interested in attending. Hopefully I’ll have it up soon.

New Blog is Finally Up

Friday, March 26th, 2010

After a long and painfull process of designing and coding my new blog I finally think I’m done. A few small tweaks might be needed here and there, but all in all it’s done. There are still some minor things I haven’t implemented yet for various reasons, but they will come eventually. Now this might not be the most original blog design ever, but I think it serves it purpouse good enough.

In addition to the new design I bough a new domain and switched to a different host. Not a huge change but I’m glad I did it Everything seems to be working perfectly.

So now that all this is done I think I’m gonna go and enjoy my weekend and realax a bit before starting my next and final class at Animation Mentor. Really looking forward to that. I was hoping we would get a week extra off before starting again, but I’ll manage somehow.

Oh, and by the way, if you’re trying to view this site using Internet Explorer, don’t. First of all you shouldn’t use IE in the first place, and I don’t really care about making this site work in your messed up browser. So either download Google Chrome or Firefox, or just use an RSS reader.

Please tell me what you think about the new design by adding a comment!
