Damn You… Minecraft!

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

Last friday I didn’t something I knew was a horribly bad idea, but it had been so long since the last time I played Minecraft that I had to load it up again and test out all the new features for a bit.

Now the problem with Minecraft is that ‘a bit’ usually ends up with you realising that suddenly it’s 6 o’clock in the morning and you have no idea where the hell time went. Instead you have spendt the last 8+ hours building a giant castle to keep the zombie horde at a safe distace while you’re digging massive tunnels under the mountains in onder to get more resources, so that you’re massive castle can get even bigger. You see where I’m going with this.

Though the game may not have shiny graphics and all that fancy stuff, what is does have is great gameplay and tons of re-play value. In fact Minecraft is probably one of the scariest games I’ve played. Trust me, when you’re deep inside a mountain exploring a cave you just found, and from seemingly out of no where a Creeper jumps out an explodes in your face (litterally) you’ll be scared to death.

Minecraft also has a damn impressive level generator. You can walk around for hours just looking around at all the pretty landscapes. Just be sure to get inside somewhere and lock the doors at night to avoid those damn zombies. And did I mention that the maps are basically infinite?

So seriously buy the game!

It’s easily worth the money, and even more so when Survival Multiplayer is released, which should happen soon.

Oh, and yeah, new theme for the blog. Fun times.

Deus Vult

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

I mentioned a project I was involved in in the last couple of posts, and I figured I should actually talk about what it is. About a month ago on a forum I usually hang around on I read about a few guys that we’re in the process of throwing together an indie game, and needed a few more people to help out.

So I hit them up with an e-mail, and got to join the project as an animator. Now being an animation student, at this point I’d join just about any project in order to get some production experience, but I really think Deus Vult is going to be a great game.

The game it self is set during the time of the crusades, and the gameplay is going to be a mix between the turn based campaign from the Total War-series and the first person combat from Mount & Blade. Basically you should be able to take controll of any soldier on the battlefield.

The major event for the game as of today is a motion-capture session that will happen in April, and as soon as that is done the progress of the game should probably start moving along more quickly, with eventual beta versions of the game being released.

My personal involvement in the game will be helping out with cleaning up motion-capture data, and the few things that will need to be hand animated. Probably also helping out in general with ideas etc.

Personally I’m very excited about the game, I love the idea and I am really looking forward to seeing how it turns out in the end. I’ll do my best to keep this blog updated with the progress of the game development, but you should also check out the development forum over at Deusvultgame.com

All though Animation Mentor and work takes up most of my time these days, I try to do other stuff every now and again. And a little while ago The Secret of Monkey Island was released in an updated version on Steam, and as I am a huge fan of the MI series I had to buy it!
